Large home furnishing stores are popular for their immersive showrooms, vast product selections and self-service shopping. Dock, their tens of thousands of square meters of space, scattered exhibits and frequent display changes, coupled with consumers’ need for precise information, pose practical challenges for product positioning and daily management. Traditional manual management no longer meets modern retail’s demands for efficiency, accuracy and intelligence. Innovative IoT solutions effectively address these pain points, boosting both operational efficiency and customer experience.
Difficulties
At the flagship store of a renowned home furnishing chain, the operation team has long been troubled by a host of product management problems. Covering an area of over 30,000 square meters, the store features hundreds of themed showrooms and nearly 10,000 home furnishing exhibits. Customers often spend a great deal of time searching for target products, and staff frequently need to guide them, which greatly undermines service efficiency and customer experience. When displays are rearranged for seasonal updates or promotional campaigns, the location information of hundreds of products has to be updated manually in the system one by one. This approach is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and it often leads to delayed or incorrect information.
Dessutom, traditional inventory checking requires full staff participation with manual barcode scanning for every single item. A complete store-wide inventory usually takes 3 till 5 dagar, and problems such as missing entries and counting errors frequently occur, making it hard to guarantee the accuracy of inventory data. Dessutom, the operation team can only evaluate product popularity indirectly based on final sales data, without access to real-time customer interaction metrics including page views and stay duration of each exhibit. As a result, it is difficult to accurately optimize display layouts and inventory strategies.

To solve these operational challenges, the store adopted a flexible paper Ble asset tag solution, building an intelligent product management system combining real-time tracking, smart inventory and customer navigation. Strategically placed Ble gateways enable accurate, store-wide monitoring of all tagged items.
Deployment is remarkably simple, the slim, flexible and eco-friendly tags seamlessly adhere to the surface or bottom of home furnishing products, remaining virtually invisible without compromising the aesthetics of the exhibits. Integrated with the mall management system, managers can view the exact location and status of all products in real time via the backend dashboard. When a product’s position changes, the system automatically updates the positioning data without manual intervention.
The store has deployed smart navigation kiosks in designated areas and developed a companion mobile app. Customers can search for products via the kiosks or the app to get accurate indoor navigation directly to the desired exhibits. When approaching a product, the app pushes detailed information including materials, dimensions, prices, origin traceability and care instructions, delivering an immersive shopping experience. The system also tracks view counts and dwell times for each exhibit, generates popularity rankings, and provides data-driven insights for display optimization and inventory adjustments.
For inventory management, the system can generate a full store-wide inventory report with a single click. It batch-collects tag information and automatically reconciles inventory data, quickly locating missing or misplaced items. This reduces the inventory process from several days to just a few hours.
