What are BLE Central and Peripheral?

Table of Contents

In modern life and production, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a powerful technology. For the new BLE device design, the product engineer will need some BLE modules which could play a central and peripheral role.

What’s BLE Central?

A Central is a device, which scans for Bluetooth devices to connect and utilize the information hosted by them. Usually, Central devices are richer in terms of resources such as computing power compared to the Peripheral devices. Pre-connection: at startup, a device called Central device, after connected, it called master.

What’s BLE Peripheral?

BLE peripheral could be scanned by the Bluetooth Central device. After a BLE connection has been established, the peripheral device called a slave.

Currently, Feasycom Bluetooth Low Energy module could support central and peripheral modes. When the BLE module scans other BLE devices, it’s a BLE central device, and the BLE module is scanned by other devices, it will be the BLE peripheral device. To meet different application needs, Feasycom developed a variety of BLE modules, such as the small antenna Nordic nRF52832 module FSC-BT630, the ultra-small size module FSC-BT690 and TI CC2640 module FSC-BT616.
