Healthcare Wristband Beacon:IoT Solution for Hospital Safety and Tracking
In large hospitals and rehabilitation centers, medical staff face major difficulties in achieving precise, real-time monitoring of inpatients and elderly care residents.
Traditional approaches such as manual rounds and paper records are inefficient and prone to errors. The challenge becomes even greater when nurses are required to oversee multiple patients at once.
IoT-based solutions address these pain points and enable smarter, more efficient management of hospital and elderly care populations.
Tantangan
At the rehabilitation center of a top-tier tertiary hospital, the department director is struggling to cope with the growing number of rehabilitation patients. Due to the limited medical staff, especially in a large multi-story rehabilitation campus, it is quite difficult to grasp the exact location of each patient. High-risk groups, especially patients with cognitive impairment or elderly patients with chronic diseases, can easily get lost in the vast and complex layout. Once lost, they may struggle to find their way back or reach the correct treatment area, and medical staff will have to spend a great deal of time searching for them. This not only disrupts normal work but may also compromise the quality of medical care for other patients.
The lack of real-time monitoring is a major obstacle to efficient patient management. Without accurate and instant access to patient location information, medical staff cannot respond quickly to any emergencies. Karena itu, there is an urgent need to establish an efficient and transparent system to monitor these inpatients.
Larutan
To effectively monitor these patients, the hospital has adopted a wireless solution based on Bluetooth Energi rendah (Ble) wristband beacons. Each inpatient wears a Bluetooth wristband with pre-bound information. These wristbands have unique identifiers and are connected to the hospital’s information system. When patients move around the hospital, gateways strategically installed at key entrances of the hospital and various departments collect the Bluetooth signals sent by the wristbands. In this way, staff can view the patient’s current location on an online platform that centrally receives data transmitted from the gateways. Selain itu, managers can set specific virtual geofences for patients. Once the relevant gateway detects that a patient has left the geofence (MISALNYA., leaving the rehabilitation building), the system will immediately notify the staff.
In addition to location monitoring, the hospital has equipped medical staff with the same type of wristbands, which can also be detected by the gateways. By capturing the location information of medical staff and patients, the entire system can identify the distance between them. When a patient experiences an abnormal situation, such as staying in one place for a long time, the system can identify the nearest medical staff based on their current location. The system will immediately send a notification to the relevant staff, reminding them to provide timely assistance to the nearby patient. This ensures that help arrives quickly and greatly shortens the response time. The system not only displays the patient’s accurate location in real time but also reduces response times in emergencies, thereby improving overall patient safety.
